it surprised me that he didn't change at all after surviving
that plane crash. he told me that he was free falling
without parachute, thousands of meters above the
ground. there was an engine failure on the right wing. his
seat was near the window, so he could see the wing
burned in flame, and then blew up with a doomful sound.
all the passengers tried not to panic although everybody
kinda knew that this trip could as well might be a trip to hell.

"it's their eyes that haunts me to this day," he told me.
"the horror look on their faces, sitting anxiously, trying to
fight their powerlessness in the situation. i couldn't take it."

so when the cabin ripped apart by the strong wind, he
undid his seatbelt, ran towards the open sky, and went free diving.

"i didn't know what i was thinking. my mind went blank
and my body moved by itself." he said with a light tone.

the fall took about ten minutes long. his fragile body
rapidly accelerating towards the earth. but the entire
time he was up there, he never thought he's gonna die.

"i mean, don't blame me. back then i was so 'in the
moment' that i forgot everything. my work, my wife and
children. heck, i couldn't even remember my flight
destination. am i going somewhere or going home? who
cares, right? i was falling."

the fall
